No, they belong to the school district which is funded by taxpayers and therefore are public property. But just because they are publish property does not mean the public can come and go at will. The schools all have safety and visitor codes for the sake of the children that the school district in the name of the public accepts and encourages.

Although they are publically owned, they are considered private property in order to keep people from tresspassing and destroying property. Also to remove people who enter school grounds to cause trouble.

They are private property, just like city hall would be private property or any other public building. "Public" entails the public to use it; it doesn't imply ownership.

no, they are not private property, but the thing to underdstand is that they are not public property.they belong to the school management and board. damage you do to those things are not yours but it is not something the government can go against unless it is a government school.
