Rainbows aren't a gay thing. The rainbow is just the sign for gay pride, it symbolizes gay rights and marriage. Liking rainbows isn't included in the whole package. I just liked rainbows my whole life...which made it kind of funny when I found out I was gay. I have a few friends that are gay that don't like them, don't worry.

Personal opinion. I love to see a rainbow in the sky, but only own 1 piece of clothing with a rainbow on it. The reason that the gay community chose the rainbow to represent us is simply because it shows beauty and unity, all the colors together. You don't have to sport it all over to be proud of who you are.

I don't think the rainbow should be used as a symbol for gay people.
It means so much more to so many different people. It is a beautiful, natural phenomenon. I'm not gay, but I don't have a problem with someones natural feelings about another person, and if you don't like rainbows, well... okay.

There is a whole movement of people who do not particularily like rainbows.

Queercore is a cultural and social movement that began in the mid 1980's as an offshoot of punk. It is distinguished by a discontent with society in general and a complete disavowal of the mainstream gay and lesbian community and what those involved believe to be its oppressive agenda. Queercore expresses itself in DIY style through zines, music, writing, art and film.

J.D.s, created by G.B. Jones and Bruce LaBruce, is widely acknowledged as being the zine which launched the movement. At first the editors of J.D.s had chosen the appellation "homocore" to describe the movement but replaced the word homo with queer to better reflect the diversity of the scene as well as to disassociate themselves completely from the confines of gay and lesbian orthodoxy.

Queeruption is an annual international Queercore festival and gathering where alternative/radical/disenfranchised queers can exchange information, network, organize, inspire and get inspired, self represent, and challenge mainstream society with DIY ideas and ethics. Shows featuring queer punk bands, performance artists, and others are put on at night, while workshops and demonstrations take place during Queeruption days. Queeruption generally takes place in a different city in a different country every year.

This doesn't really answer the main question, but I think the reason the rainbow was chosen as the gay symbol is because it's not "straight."

I agree totally with you. Well not totally. Well I actually never really thought about it. I like rainbows in the sky. I like them on the gay flag, but only on parade day in Chicago. I don't like unicorns or kittens either. I like darker stuff, with a hint of pink. Like dark pink is awesome. I usually dress dark. What was the question?? Oh yeah. Nah. I can give or take them.
