Rules and regulations framed by British were to control the armed forces in which they had British Officer and Indian soldiers. After independance the benifits that an British officer enjoued was given to Indian Officers but the benifits enjoued by the Indian soldiers(which ensured that they remain loyal to British raj) was slowly pulled back and given to Indian Officer.
Indian soldiers were used as feeder to their artillary, what are they considered now by Indian Officer?

The typical Indian Soldier certainly is a pillar of strength, support and loyalty to the typical Officer, who is loyal to his soldier, respects and very much looks after his soldier! There is true value in the officer-soldier relationship, friendship! Please do not ever doubt it, rest assured that there is great bondage between the soldier and officer: which is one prominent factor that makes the Indian Army one of the very best armies in the world! Army is not career, but it is much more: it is life! And, the essence of that life, is the officer-soldier combine, bondage!

I think they are better man for man as far as the regular Army goes. The Royal Marines are a force no one can compare to over here although I think comparing our Marines to them is a bit unfair since the Royals are more akin to a Commando Unit than a Regular Marine Infantry Unit. I would put our Marines against any other infantry group they have though. Overall I think there Officer Corps is also FAR SUPERIOR to ours, the US Military Officer Corps has become a political animal that does not promote war fighters or real leaders, the lone exception being our Marine Corps Officer Corp. and I am Navy saying that. They also concentrate on the soldier skills and not the technology as well as the fact the British people understand that Military Training is supposed to be tough, unlike our Congress and whiny civilians who complain that training is to hard! Boo Hoo! They should be prepared for war dang it!! I wish we would also copy the Regiment System they have of getting the troops from the same areas, our Assemly Line System is lacking as far as our Army goes. The system they have promotes tradition, community and also has been shown to work better for troop moral and esprit. Think about being able to serve in the regiment your grandfater served in? As far as SpecOps, the SBS are better than the SAS I think, the SAS get all the press but most of the SBS have already gone thru RMC Boot and then gone to selection. I would say the SEALs and Delta are just as good as anything the Brits have though and in some areas a bit better. The only thing I do not like about the Brits is the habit of swinging there arms while marching, looks silly ;-)

Just proves that Independence wasn't necessarily a good thing for everyone. Some win, some lose. Go figure, it's called politics. Nevermind the fact that Indian society has a caste system which, British rule or not, still dominates Indian culture and society to this day.
