Being coordinated enough to play an instrument and sing at the same time is a very, very, VERY hard thing to do. Some people just got "it" and can do everything, but a lot of people (including me) have to practice a TON.

Ok, here's what you do. Practice your guitar part until you can't get it wrong, and feel you are at a comfortable pace. It's all about being in sync with your music and understand what's going on with it. Even listen to why you play that chord, or dissonant, or whatever it is your doing. Once you feel you cannot get it wrong, start to hum your vocal part with the guitar. Don't immidiately start on lyrics unless you feel you can, because word sylables are kinda sorta in a way like guitar articualtion, and they can mess you up.

Once you can hum pretty decently, you can attempt to try and add the actual words. If it doesn't work, revert to humming, and if it does, well then you're in good shape.

And as for singing, I'm not much of a vocalist, but I do know that some people are made to sing, and others just aren't. If you are one of those other who just can't sing, it's going to take some hard work and practice.

One very important thing about singing though is to be sure you aren't singing from your "mouth". The air must come from the deepest part of your lungs and up. One way to practice this is to: Lay on yor back on the floor, and take a big breath. Then slowly let all of the air out and feel that your stomach air is expanding. If it's not, then you need to get more air, deeper. And if it is, repeat this for about 8-10 more times. If you feel lightheaded, that's good because you are building up your endurance.

Well, that's pretty much all I know on this subject. Email me for further questions if you need to. Thanx!

First, look at the song and see what chords you need. Then make sure you can play and change the chords instantly. Next, play through the song over and over until your fingers can remember where to go by themselves. After that, make sure you know the tune and rhythm of the song and sing it till you know it. Finally put the two together and keep playing until it happens. A suggestion would be to go back to the sixties and play some simple stuff from that era !2 bar blues are always good - Johnny B Goode Hound Dog, Blue Suede shoes etc Hope this helps

Alas! It's all down to practice, practice and more practice! That's how they managed it. As for helping in singing, use your diaphragm. They can extend exhalation and voice. They can really make your voice carry across a room, with the least effort. Just contract it by pushing with your stomach muscles when talking, instead of using your lungs to exhale air for speaking. You might find speech lessons very useful in learning that.
