What do you mean by adding? a partition or a new hard disk it self.
To create a partition you will be reformatting your drive using (for windows) an installation disk then set to format and then set the partition size. Make sure to make a back up of files first to another disk.
To install a new harddisk, after you bought a new one, check if there is an extra slot for IDE. If all are used (e.g. cd rom and the existing drive) you can put the new drive as a slave disk to the other if your BUS cable (the one that connects to the hard disk for data) has one for slave disk. Connect the power cable then check if the system reads your drive.

Find the hd that's compatible with your system, and then go purchase it.. open the case, find the expansion slot, set the drive to master, slave or cable select, and then slide it into the chosen slot.. plug in the cables, power, and the ribbon cable, with the red stripe towards the same side as the power cable, and then reboot the puter, and click the right function key, which you will be told, as in press F? to run setup.
This will start setup and you can check to ensure that the drive is properly read, ie, what size, ie, how many gb.. then go on with the bootup process..

they have external hard drives for the pc now. you should be able to get it from most large electronics stores, i.e. CompUSA, Staples or a computer store. The other option is to take ur pc to a computer store and have them install another hard drive or replace the existing hard drive with a bigger one.
