When I am about to go to sleep, laying in my bed, I sometimes have these sudden movements without me making them. I had many occasions where i would hit my bed as if I just fell into it or like last night where my arm just flung itself across my bed. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

Your muscles are relaxing. Try stretching exercises/movements before laying down to sleep. You have too many 'movement' chemicals stored in your muscles and they have to work it off for sleep to happen. These chemicals stimulate the nerves to fire and the movement happens. Try making sure you get sufficient exercise earlier in the day (not right before bed). Try a hot bath before bed to relax those muscles.
Drink lots of good water throughout the day.
IF your legs keep moving and jumping, then you may have ''restless'' leg syndrome for which your MD can give you medications.

I get that too sometimes, and it's perfectly normal. They're called "hypnic jerks." Your body is reacting to something you're perceiving in a dream, such as falling. They can be a nuisance, but are harmless.

Could you be talking about myoclonic jerks?

If you think that you have a sleep disorder, you can get yourself checked at a sleep clinic.
