This is called ''sleep paralysis" or hypnogaugic paralysis. I have had it happen many times. If you tell your brain to go back to sleep, you will and then you will wake up later normally. It has to do with the fact that your consciousness sometimes 'wakes' before your motor part of your brain. When you are sleeping your body has limited movement ability because you would be acting out your dreams and stuff otherwise. So it is ok, you aren't crazy.
The shamans of our society call that the liminal space of time and say it is a time you can speak to the spirit world.

It is called Cataplexy. I am spelling it phonetically. I many not have the spelling correct, but I suffered it for years. I couldn't move until I could manage to take one deep breath; or unless someone heard me moaning for help and touched me. That also released me. I could hear everything going on around me. I was fully awake; just paralyzed. It was a form of panic disorder.
Stress causes this. I suffered it from childhood and into my adulthood when times were very stressful.
You can reduce stress, get enough sleep. Sometimes when I sleep too long it occurs too. Again, it depends on my stress level. Haven't had an episode in a few years.

I'm so relieved to see that someone else has this happen too. I've had this for years, and someone once told me it was a kind of narcolepsy and had to do with the chemicals in your brain that keep you from moving around in your sleep. I was also told that taking one sudafed tablet at bedtime would make it stop. I tried doing that, but the sudafed will keep you awake. if anyone else has any information on this I would love to know more about it.

At the risk of sounding totally creepish, I'm going to say that this sounds oddly like what some people call "astral traveling." Basically, it means your spirit has been out of your body doing whatever, and sometimes it takes the spirit a minute to jump back into your body as it wakes up.

My mom became lifeless so I already knew she wasn't respiratory, and that i wasn't approximately to objective breaking into the graveyard; digging on the hours of darkness and risking falling in and by danger getting my finger jammed up my very own nostril or in all likelihood worse places. as nicely, I had extra appropriate issues to do with my arms. would not you prefer to ask "that question" now?

I have been stuck in my sleep. It is actually quite frightening for me. This occurs because you were disturbed while in your deepest level of you REM cycle & you brain has to pull you back through each cycle. It is not natural for brain to attempt to do it so quickly & it takes a second for it to pull you back through each level.
I do not have a cure for this unfortunately but I would suggest visiting www.sleepfoundation.org for tips on sleeping better. You may be able to contact someone through this page to find out what is going on with your head.

You guys should take a class dealing with astro projection. Try your college and universities or even Adult Education classes, probably under paranormal classes/studies
