As was said, sharks are not algae eaters. I find that the best way to control algae, besides making sure you are not over feeding or over bio-loaded, or leaving your light on for more than 10 hours, is to have live plants in your tank. They consume nitrates just like algae does, and so will provide competition for the nutrients that algae needs.

Well, no, they do not eat algae. It will most likely kill the kuhlie loaches over territory. Red tail sharks do not like having other bottom feeders in the same tank.

Why do you need a fish for an algae eater? Brushes do a better job, and take up zero bioload.

Oh btw, if you do decide to get rid of the shark and get some kuhlies, kuhlies do best in groups of 6 or more. If you get less than 6, all they do is hide, and you literally will never see them.

RTB sharks are not the best algae eaters out there, but a good clean tank won't have much algae to worry about. So as long as you keep up your tank it should work out fine.
