sharks are far more agile that this myth gives them credit for. Sharks are designed to be the ultimate water preditors. Great Whites have been clocked swimming at a cruising speed that surpasses anything humans can accomplish. They are sleek and dynamic, breaking the water with little friction. Swimming in any pattern will do nothing to "dodge" a sharks attack.

However it is true that all meat eating sharks can not see when their mouths are open to take that final bite that defines bloodlet or not. Their jaws open which creates a cavity in which they eyeballs sink inside the sockets, hampering their sight. It is feesible that at that moment a human could maneuver themselves out of the way.....but that is assuming you know the attack is coming.

Sharks have a sensitive "nose" the "nose" of a shark is designed to pick up vibrations and sensory pieces of information, when their eyes are not available to them. It has been theorized that a punch or hard strike to this "nose" might make the shark recoil in pain from sensory overload.

Also, Alligators and crocodiles are a bitmore agile than the story goes to. When I was a child, I was told gators could be escaped by running in a zigzag pattern as their legs are not designed to run straight for long periods of time. This too is a myth. Gators are powerful creatures aswell, that can burst into 30 miles an hour. THEY CAN REACH A FLEEING HUMAN with that speed.

Yep, it's a myth. Zig Zagging does however work with alligators and crocodiles, but not underwater, you have to run like that. Sharks are more aerodynamic than us and will go a heck of a lot faster than we can swim...no matter what.

Don't you zig zag for a rhino since they have poor eyesight?
