My 16 year old daughter had sudden onset of pain in lower right abdomen area, became unbearable and went to the hospital and they said she had a UTI, gave antibiotics, brought home...went to pediatrician and he thinks it is her appendix (even though ct scan showed nothing). She is still running low grade fever, pain level of 5-6 constantly with shooting pains of level 8-9. Should I take her to a different hospital or back to the original that insists it is nothing but a UTI?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ovarian cysts that are about to burst cause these symptoms. A pelvic may be needed to diagnos this.
If she is sexually active (PLEASE NO) then an ectopic pregnancy could be the cause.

Appendix swelling would cause loss of appetite and nausa, along with a strong urge to have a bowel movement, but you cant.

Does she talk to her mates? Maybe so but she has them all cautioned not to tell! Potential boyfriends? What took place 6 months ago to start this off/ something did, rape, sexual attack, knocked down by some bigger guys she's now afraid of? Hard to establish if she wants a school move? Will she write for you or point at stuff? Hope the homework is being kept up with at least. If necessary morse code or deaf sign language may help open her up a bit. Hard to say what will work without seeing er. You need to try these communication methods she may get bored of no one passing the salt if you all pretend you don't know what she wants. Not sure if this is selective mutism, is there anyone she will talk to? Wonder what would happen if she saw an accident with hurt people will she be able to call emergency for help? She seems very disconnected from life. with depression possibly. Am shocked they kicked her out for oppositional behaviour isn't that what they work on? I'd take the pressure off just be normal and carry on with your lives and see. In another 6 months I'd be worried but she will want a job or income at 1 point so she will need to talk some time. Making too much fuss can make this more entrenched. Ask her things at table as if she can reply then ignore her if she fails to respond. GOOD LUCK

Having had several UTIs myself, pain on your lower rightside is not consistent with a UTI. You didn't mention whether your daughter had pain in her back(kidney area) or whether or not there was a buring sensation when she urinates which are indicators of a UTI. Emergency room doctors are not concerned with diagnosing conditions and are prone to just give you medicine to get you out of there as quickly as possible. My advice would be to take her to another hospital immediately or perhaps have your pediatrician to refer her over to a internal medicine m.d. You have to be adamant with some doctors in order to get your point across. As they say the squeaky wheel gets greased. Good Luck to you.

I certainly COULD be her appendix. When I was 16, I was diagnosed with "gas in my gall bladder" and sent home with muscle relaxants. It took THREE DAYS of horrific pain before an internist decided to do an exploratory surgery and found that while my appendix was inflamed it wasn't about to rupture because it had been leaking fluids into my abdominal cavity!!!

Find a doctor that will do something! Take her to TEN hospitals if you have to....

Take her to another hospital hopefully it is just a UTI but if by some chance it is her appendix and you leave it untreated it could be deadly so dont take any chances get her looked at one more time just to make sure

its UTI..
UTI can be very painful and it also causes a low grade fever cause it is an infection. Have her drink plenty of water and try giving her some cranberry juice.
