Why do they teach black history in every grade? I have 3 children and they teach the same black history in each grade, it never varies, you hear the same thing. If they are going to teach black history why don't they just remake our history books and include African Americans in the book instead of repeating the same things all the way through school? I'm not against them teaching it, i just don't understand why they can't just include it in normal teaching and make it a different issue per grade.

The teachers give all the students the right to opt out, and the older they get, the more choose to do so.

Good question. The problem is that the state of Texas controls the textbooks. Everything gets watered down. I agree with you that they should vary the content so that more people are represented.

I agree...Not only should they teach it different each grade they should make it a subject in to the school learning system just as they do American History. I mean whey you look at it American History is taught the same way and the same thing each grade. That's a none subject that has to be taken why not African American? I mean they don't give kids the choice to amp out during teaching of American History so it shouldn't be a choice for Black History either. Just shows how our world is still off balance right today. No Justice at all. But It's suppose to be a world for equal rights.

It seems like your children go to a poor (poor as in low quality, not poor as in lacking in money) school. They are too lazy to have a well-rounded curriculum so they regurgitate Black History teachings grade after grade. Many history books do incorporate black history (not just African Americans). It would be nice if your school system would upgrade to the more inclusive books rather than rely on the incomplete books. How sad. :(

Yeah it is sad that every year for black history they recycle the same things... and to the dude who said that we should celebrate american history and noy have a month for one race, I think you should mention that to the text book authors who keep conviently forgetting that people besides white folks contributed greatly to forming this country

Teaching the history of any specific race is wrong. America has a history. And history class should be taught that way.

Teaching black or asian or hispanic or white history just uses racism as a teaching tool. In a time when we are supposed to be taking down the race barrier we make sure we teach it in school. I can imagine a teacher telling a black student to remember it was the white devil, slave masters who stole away his great great grandfather and it should be rehashed every year. In fact my daughter had never heard the N word spoken until forced to watch "ROOTS" in school during black history week.

Stop using race as a crutch. Every living human being is responsible for his own destiny. Anyone who puts forth the effort can succeed.
