My battery has been lasting w/o the cord for about 20 minutes and about 5 when playing a movie.

Now it won't even stay on when unplugged like it's not a laptop anymore, just a desk computer.

Could it be loose? Can I charge this battery like a car battery? Any suggestions?

You've probably burnt out the poor battery by keeping in on charge all the time.

General rule for batteries are, when it's fully charged, unplug it from the AC or it will DRAIN it and shorten it's life, which has happened in your case.

You're gonna need to get a new one now. That battery is dead.

When you do, only plug AC in to charge your battery. Once charged, let it run on battery till it drains all the way down, then charge.

Turn off when not in use, even hibernation can drain life out.

Yes it can. After a while batteries will hold less and less of a charge. 500 recharges are usually the limit.
The 20 minutes use time shows that it was already on the way out. That is a very short time.

it extremely is great to apply up the excellent battery on your pc by way of fact in case you value it every time, it extremely is basically going to bear in techniques as much as a undeniable factor and the battery is only going to be waiting to save up a smaller and smaller volume every time. i think of it extremely is great to fee a working laptop or pc while it extremely is punctiliously ineffective. once you ought to use a working laptop or pc, have one greater battery or connect the pc to the plug without the battery if the battery nevertheless have some power left in it. only leave the pc directly to empty the batteries. do no longer subject by way of fact it dosen't harm the pc.

batteriess can die.
try this, this might work. Put the batterie in a zip lock back and put it in the freezer. leave it overnight, in the morning wait for it to defrost and try recharging it. some batteries can be resurrected this way.
Hope this helps
