With my 3 kids I tore pretty much everytime just a little and no I didnt feel it. There is so much going on and depending on if you have an epidural or not. 2 of mine I had natural and the last one I had an epidural and I guess along with the pressure and contractions the tearing was not that big of a pain or noticeable. I wont lie and say labor is great and it wont hurt at all, it does but what gets you through it is the fact that when that baby is out pretty much all the pain is totally gone!!

I didn't tear on the outside, but I did tear a little on the inside. The doctor (not my usual OB, the doc on call) claimed my son did it with his nails on the way out, but I doubt it. His nails weren't long or sharp. And it wasn't a case of him being too big, because he was a 31 week premie and only weighed a little over four pounds. I did have to get three stitches, but because I had an epidural, I didn't feel the tear happen or the stitches. It did hurt after the epidural wore off though, and for about a week afterwards.

I've had 3 kids, cut staright back first time - OUCH- 2nd and 3rd kids cut to the side and tore straight up with 3rd, also. My friend was in the room with me and said it looked very painful when they stitched the tear but it never hurt after. I had an epidural all three times. You wouldn't get a tooth worked on w/o Novacaine would you? Why be in unnecessary pain? You will be a so much better of a state of mind when you meet your new baby. Given the choice (hindsight talking here) tearing was less painful and healed better. Sounds crazy but true!

I tore with baby 1 and baby 2 but not with baby 3. I felt it with the first one because my epidural was wearing off. It really felt like a burning sensation more than anything and with all the stuff they are doing down there, it is not too bad. The worst part was the burning when urination during recovery.

I didn't have any pain medicine with my child. I did tear but I had no idea until my Dr. told me. I tore pretty bad, but I'm going to tell you this, because no one told me this... if you do tear TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Make sure you use the squeeze bottle they give you to flush and clean yourself out, no matter how much it hurts, and take a warm bath daily. I didn't take as good care of myself as I should and I went back for my 6 week checkup and most of me was sealed up just fine, but there was a sport the size of a dime that was still open and my OBGYN had to clean it, and I tell you what, it hurt more than giving birth with no epidural or pain medicine. I can't reiterate too much IF YOU TEAR, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!

I tore in several places when I had my son because he came out so fast there was no time for it to stretch. I had him completely naturally (no pain killers), when I tore there was so much pressure from his head I couldn't feel the actual tear, oh sure lots of pain, but you can't really "feel" anything because of the pressure. Boy did it hurt when they stitched it up and when it was healing though

I just had my first baby 2 weeks ago. I tore and didnt feel it. i had an epidural though. i think the pain came after when i had to pee or sit on the bed or try getting up on the bed. that is when it hurt me the most.

No epidural here, tore with my firstborn only and yeah, I felt it.. but when all that other stuff is going on it's really not that bad during. It's just the stiches healing afterward that can be tender... trying to urinate was the painful part.. and sitting.

I tore from top to bottom since my son's hand was on his head comming out, the doctor had to tell me to stop pushing so he can get my son to take his hand off his head!

I got a epidural so I didnt feel a thing! Labor was NOTHING to me! Its crazy! I didnt feel no pain what so ever.

i did in 2 small spots, only 2 stitches, which is way better than having an episiotomy(they cut from crotch to butt) you can have a lot of problems with that. it was only a momentary pain also, it happens the same time the head is coming out, so you feel it, but only for a second, after that baby is laid on your stomach, you don't really think about much else.
