I,ve encountered the same problem two weeks ago ,the other answers are okay,so just try a few other things beginning with going to sound properties via the control panel where you can run a sound test and troubleshoot your hardware, you may have to ubdate your sound drivers and reinstall them if necessary as was mentioned,a file could be missing or corrupted fixing these files can be done with registry mech.yet after doing all those things with no clear answer I removed my speaker wire from the speaker ports in the back to the front and now they work so good luck

If the sound problems occur intermittently, there could be a interrupt conflict problem. Uninstall the audio and sound drivers and restart the computer. For more information you can check the following site: http://fixit.in/sound.html I find the information givenin the site is more useful

If that would not artwork, you should attempt your audio gadget on yet another gadget like stereo participant, television, walkman. If the audio gadget do not artwork everywhere, replace them. in the adventure that they artwork on yet another gadget, you should attempt different audio gadget on your computer. common headphones might want to do the pastime. in the adventure that they artwork then the challenge is with the relationship, you'll both want to fool round with it or change the audio gadget. i recognize the least conceivable rationalization is decrease than probable (ie.: neither the sound card nor the speaker artwork with different instruments), yet not likely would not recommend no longer conceivable. a ability surge from the sound card would have damaged both operating example. in case you nonetheless journey issues, provide extra information on your effects.

you may need to reseat your sound card. or make sure that you have a sound card. because windows will know weather there is a card in there unless the os has become faulty.

you may also want to check in -->start-->accessories-->system tools-->system information and see if there are any conflicts
