My best friend shared a really personal secret with me today, and its just bothering me. I promised not to tell anybody else, but I really do feel like I want to cry on someone's shoulders right now. Thats how much it bothers me.
So I guess my question is, will I be betraying my best friend if I told someone else about it (i.e. if I told another good freind of mine about it)? Because ...its ...just......uggggggggh..........i dunno
I dont know where else to go for advice. So I really appreciate your time for replying to this.

I would have to say, you should let it eat you up inside before you betray your friend, now saying that... If this secret he told you would harm him or anyone else, then I would have to change that answer. But if it is about him telling you he is gay, then you need to keep that to yourself, it is hard enough accepting that and telling a good friend, but if you tell that could destroy the trust he would ever have with telling you or anyone.

Why not explain to your best friend that this news is a lot for you to handle.
Meaning, you are seeking their permission to tell another trusted friend so that you have a line of communication to deal with the news.
Whoever said that nasty comment about the aids and dying is a mean and hateful person and should feel ashamed. How can they even fall asleep peacefully at night.
Talk to your best friend and let them know you need a place to go and vent as well.

1) If it involves this friend causing harm to self or others, you need to tell someone. THey are asking for help by telling you.
2) Talk to them. Tell them what you told us and try to find a way to work it out so it is not eating at you all the time.
If all else fails, there are dozens of counseling agencies that offer anonymous telephone services where you could talk it out with a counselor and no one would even know who you were or who your friend is.

Truly, do NOT tell any secret a friend has told you. I have been told many secrets over the years and I can tell you that if you hold it, later you will feel proud of yourself that you did not tell. Would you want a friend to tell your secret? Obviously this person trusted you enough to let you in on a very private matter, so do not let your friend down.

By talking to another friend you run the risk of having your best friend feel betrayed or lose their trust in you. If you feel the need to talk to someone for your own good you should seek the shoulder of someone outside your group of friends.

If you tell someone, they will end up telling another person and then that person will tell someone else, and it will eventually become widely known. The person who shared the secret with you expected you to not tell anyone else, and you should keep it to yourself unless somebody could be hurt by you not telling another person.

Maybe there's a way to protect the person's identity and talk about your feelings about it with someone... If not if it's bothering you THAT much, I would say go for it.
