Today thru advances in technology many surgical procedures are conducted at outpatient surgical centers which are more efficient & economical than larger hospitals w HUGE overhead costs.

Likewise, if a doctor feels a patient is ready to proceed home, even if the traditional stay has not been met, send them home. Money is saved & the patient has less time spent around SICK PEOPLE at the hospital.

As far as testing, I personally have had two occasions where my doctor advised we could do an additional test, tho the possibility of finding an illness is miniscule. They will often order a test anyway as "necessary" to cover their professional liability, just in case the patient later decides to pursue a lawsuit of some type based upon inadequacy of a diagnosis or one of the many suits brought w less than honorable intent.

The effect of these practices results in lower payouts on health claims, which actually benefits us as consumers more than the insurance company because rates may be contained better.

The insurance companies have been doing it for years. Who it affects, of course, is the patient who is denied whatever their doctor feels they need. There’s not much the patient can do other than pay for the expense theirself, and who has a lot of extra money sitting around to do that?

Well low income people are effected. They are the ones who can't afford health insurance and aren't eligible for medical cards. If you are admitted, they only have to get you stable, then legally they can release you. It will never be resolved but the poor will always be with us and so will rich and getting richer doctors and insurance companies.
