In my opinion she could of played alot better. She is still and always will be number one in my book but I was really looking foward to seeing her recieve that trophy.

No she didn't let me down. I was actually rooting for Serena to win, but Sharapova just didn't have the answers to Serena's game. I think she was really distraught after the match though. You could see her crying and her eyes were all welled up and red, but she maintained her composure during the trophy presentation, and didn't burst into tears like Jana Novotna in the '93 Wimbledon final, which she lost to Steffi Graf after leading 4-1 and having 2 breaks of serve in the decider, and losing it 6-4. I think Sharapova is a class act, and she is a great role model for young tennis players -- minus the grunting though :-)

Well, her 0-6 0-6 loss to Lindsay Davenport in 2005 was more of a shock to me. Today, she was at least managing to hit the balls back, but in that match, she looked like a five year old kid learning how to play tennis.

She didn't let me down. She made me feel good. Serena beat the odds. She was the underdog. She came up on time with a good fight. So I say congrats to Serena for her effort.

hey sharapova was hitting winners too. but definately not as much as serena. so i dont think she just gave up and not cared about the match. c'mon this is her first aussie open final... it would have been really dumb for her to give up. she was just outplayed by serena, no question about it. even the last point was a winner from serena.

Yeah, the game itself was a little boring not to see Maria fight like she usually does. I'm not a big fan of her, but expected to see a good game though.

Not really cause I knew Serena was really good and she definately played really well. Just like Gonzales and Tommy Haas - Tommy played well but Gonzales just took it to a new level.

She has been defeated by Serena Williams. Trophy is not hers. But she is still no.l and a reminder for her for not to be complacent.
