All non-Whites have problems in America. It has been this way since the Whites conquered the American Indians. It is that way now, and probably shall always be that way. This is not a check mark for the "good" of the nation.
If you think that Whites do not face bigotry, think again.
What is even more idiotic is that the various races and ethnicities often are bigoted against members of their OWN races because they are not dark enough or are too dark.
Races that are considered minorities should not fight amongst themselves over such idiocy.
It is so sad that if a person of a non-"White" race or ethnicity can pass for white, they often do just so they are not persecuted. Of course, this annoys the other members of their race or ethnicity. I can pass for "White". I refuse. I always click "other" and correct someone who calls me "white". I willingly face the consequences of not being hired because some employers believe "all Gypsies steal, there is no such thing as an honest Gyspy!" and, for some reason, people just do not give me much grief over it. Being 6'2" and martial arts trained may help in that regard.
I concur with you... skin color does not matter. I do not care if you are white, black, yellow, red, or purple.

Everyone does somewhat, but look at it this way: if not for the previous generation, there would be no racial issues. Skin color shouldn't mean anything, and yet we hype it up like it's the most important factor in a person. At first everything was intended for white supremacy and WASP domination, but nowadays it's almost like there's a handicap for the other races to "catch up" to Caucasians because of wrongs done to those races years and years ago. In return, many Caucasians feel their jobs are being "stolen" or other nonsense and then begin to believe they are the superior race.
The generation running the country now institutes "affirmative action" so that, for example, colleges have special scholarships for minority candidates, and institutions have special hiring processes to include a quota of minority candidates. Shouldn't we all be viewed exactly the same? Shouldn't qualifications be all that matter? As an example for sports fans, so what if Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy are the first black coaches in the Super Bowl? I don't care what color their skin is - they're both great coaches! As an owner, watching one of them hoist the Lombardi Trophy does not make me want to run out and hire the first African American I know to coach my team. Things like these, although not in any way "racist", teach young people that skin color does make a difference, and the cycle is regenerated.
So, to answer your questions, yes, race is publicly acknowledged, although not publicly, and members of different races do still hold grudges against one another, for one reason or another.

African-Americans have the most difficulty here, for sure. It has always been the case, always will be. Sure there are other prejudices as well, and again there always will be, but I don't know what exactly it is but there is just a constant problem for African-Americans. The Latin American peoples are now surpassing them as the largest minority in the USA and there is a lot of tension as well between those groups because of it. This explodes everywhere from the streets to the prison systems.
Ironically, many (most?) of the Latin American people are foreign-born immigrants, or first-generation US citizens , (and, it must be noted, in many cases recent illegal immigrants) while the African-Americans' ancestors have, in most cases, been here for hundreds of years, for some of them all the way back to the early colonies! It's ironic then that they get the "hardest time" of all, but, I'm telling you my opinion is this is how it is.

Each race is having its own problems in the USA. It just depends on where you go, the class and age group you are around, and the field of work you go into. (Or, if you are dealing with kids, the type of school or school program they are in.) If you are White and living in the city, you are probably going to have problems with minorities. If you are a minority and in an affluent suburb, you are probably going to have problems with Whites, Jews, and (in some cases) Asians. Diversity creates differences and divisions, and these differences and divisions are going to exist for as long as diversity does.

I believe it'll be the Hispanics that have problems in the future. I think Americans are starting to get fed up with the illegal immigration and those defending the illegals.

All color of people have problems here because in one way or another everybody here is racist.
The ones that say they are not, they lie because if they are Afro -Americans they want to remain with their people, and so do Caucasians, Hispanic, Indians, orientals, etc... sad isn't it? :S

Every color...
We all have a common enemy, called satan, and he tempts everybody..
So all men in America, and the rest of the world, (women and children included) have that same problem... which is bigger than the black, white, red, and yellow, cultural problems..
But not bigger than the grace of God, who is blessed forever...
Amen
