Yes, many communities take sewage sludge and compost it. Realize it has already gone through the treatment plants. The government has very strict heat and time guidelines for rendering the material "pathogen free." The resulting product is then used on civic landscape projects where the public will not contact the ground often (like they do on football fields for example) but NEVER where food crops are grown.

Home composting human waste is too dangerous and smelly. Actually in Tibet and Nepal they use human and animal waste to generate methane for use in cooking.

Lemans Hardware in Kidron Ohio cater to the Ammish. They sell a composing toilet. The top is simular in appearance as a standard toilet . It has a seat and lid. Under the seat there is a drum filled with peat moss. Once you do your business you crank the drum one revolution. The waist is composed and collects in a drawer at the bottom of the toilet. This is then used as a fertilizer. I would use it in the flower beds and not the garden. The thought of eating things grown from human waist might turn your dinner guest off

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a problem around the world. Many country do this and can cause human diseases. Hepatitis is one of the diseases that can be caught with food using human waste. Many country that don't have this law in effect can ship produce into the USA. The reason other countries do this is that they cannot afford the chemical fertilizer like the industrial countries do.

Several large cities do and package it for sale, the two that come to mind are Houston, "huactonite" and Milwaukee, "Milorganite". You will find it on a lot of golf courses. Don't get me started on golfers playing on..... I think this one falls under the category, "don't try this at home". Reminds me of an old, but true joke about why we can no longer use certain chemicals on golf courses...........well, maybe latter. If you really want to know, just e me.
