both are good laptop manufacturers, it just seem that you see compaq notebooks everywhere and I believe that my have something to do with a person view of value and quality, you can get Compaq laptops cheaper than most Toshiba, I have used both Compaq and Toshiba. What I recommend is Memory 1GB min.

It's about a tie, both have had their share of problems. I'd go with the Toshiba, personally. Compaq is basically made by HP and HP makes fairly cheap computers. Gateway makes a good laptop.

..... ive had compaq's,..... and theyve been excellent,... operating and pricewise..... However i'm tempted to try a Toshiba next time,.. because pricewise over the last year or so,... they've been seling their laptop's with bigger RAM,. bigger PROCESSOR's,. and bigger HARD DRIVE's,... than other manufacturer's,.. yet their price's have hardly moved.... My compaq's have been top's, but at roughly the same price's,... the Toshiba's have heap's more grunt than my compaq's... My compaq's have been excellent,... but i just might try a Toshy,... for my next lappy.... The same thing goes for Acer,.... They're also putting big grunt in their mid range laptop's,. with some even having 128 graphic's included.... It's a pretty good time to buy lappy's at the moment....

Compaq is rated worst by consumer reports. Toshiba definitely ranks as more dependable. Lenovo is number one but they are a bit overpriced. Gateway is the best bang for your buck.

Toshiba builds the best performing MOBO's for laptops out there, after they go to manufactures they lose quality, but are still the best in the business.

I've had a Toshiba for six years and no problems I use it only for traveling now. I purchased an Acer about six months ago because my friend had one for a while and really liked his........I also like mine........and it saved me a couple hundred bucks over the comparable Toshiba.

You are comparing an HP computer made in china to a fine piece of Japanese engineering. The screens on Toshiba's are great since displays is one of their main products they are known for.

Compaq's are crap! My friends that have made the poor choice have paid for it dearly.

The Toshiba users loved theirs.

Dell users would sell their grandmothers before giving up their computers.

I've used Toshiba for years. This is my third one with the Toshiba name on it and I've got to say, their service is great if you ever need it.
