I got off birth control about 4 months ago, and have had 2 normal periods. But then, last month, I had light brown spotting before my next period was scheduled to start. I thought I might be pregnant because I experienced frequent urination, headaches, and nausea, but never confirmed it. My period was 3 days late, and started while I was on a plane. That was Dec. 20th. And aside from a couple of days, here and there, it has not stopped since. It's heavy, bright red, and sometimes, there are clots. I've been to the emergency room today, and they said my hemoglobin was fine, and I'm not pregnant, but didn't really do any other tests. What could be wrong with me? Could I have had and early miscarriage? If so, shouldn't the bleeding have stopped by now? Or could this be a sign of something worse? Please help.

I stopped taking birth control because I'm limited the ones I can take because I'm nursing my baby, and the ones I did take caused 3 week long periods. They were very light periods, but I wanted to get my cycle back on track, so I stopped taking them. This one is alot heavier, and more red that the birh control induced one.

I have actually done this before too. It was so scary because It seemed as if I was going to bleed to death. I went to the doctor and they also found me to not be pregnant... my periods were always irregular and so they stuck me on birth control pills and it stopped the period the next day and regulated me so that I now only bleed for 3 days and I can name it like clock work when I will start and stop. talk to an ob/gyn and have them put you back on birthcontrol.. not sure why you stopped but they have many types so if that type wasnt agreeing with you.. try another! You can also go to your local planned parenthood if you have one.

This got here approximately to me up until my daughter became 6 months previous .. I wasnt breastfeeding my daughter tho , I went via different drugs and advised it became hormone fluctuation, my Dr placed me on 23 different drugs in those 6 months .. i ultimately considered yet another Dr ( woman) and she or he advised me that no longer something my Dr gave me became helping as matter of certainty it became making it worse .. She desperate to time table an ultrasound to confirm all my placenta (sp?) were bumped off after start , If it hadnt they have been going to set me as much as have a DNC .. thankfully it wasnt that .. To this present day I have not got any clue why i bled lots yet dont be afraid to get a 2d opinion .. they might hit upon a reason on your bleeding , stable luck :)

This is a perfect question for your gyno. You should call first thing in the morning, because the symptoms show that there could be a problem.
Just because the ER deemed it not an emergency, does not mean that it's not something that needs to be treated!
Call your gyno!

Yes, it could be something worse. You need to see your regular gynnie, not just an ER doctor.

Minimally, you should have a gynnie exam.
Most likely you should have a PAP test.
Possibly, you should have an endometrial biopsy.

Call your gynnie tomorrow. Tell the scheduler you have been bleeding for a month, had a neg preg test, etc. They should be willing to see you promptly due to your symptoms.

I would say a trip to your OB/GYN is in order. With all the information we have on cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and such, it's never ceases to amaze me that women play Russian Roulette with their health.
