is smiling a learned behavoir? or is it instinct?

It is instinctual, but can also be situationally learned (you can figure out when it is and is not appropriate to smile).

both. I learned to smile at work, wether I'm happy or not, and customers instinctively smile back. WEIRD...

Smiling is instinctive. It is an outward expression of pleasure.

instinct babies dont learn to smile they just do it naturally.. just like when we are older we smile because things make us smile or laugh we dont just start laughing for nothing..its natural instinct

It's a natural reflex. For example, when you cry, you make a sad face. It would be a learned behaviour to smile while you are crying and sad.

I think it's instinct, because if you're needing to relax or cheer up or something, if you just smile, you tend to cheer up.

I think it's learned. Babies smile when they're happy even befor they're old enough to be taught.

its a beautiful facial muscle reaction when ur brain deciphers the signals sent as funny or cute coming from ur senses of course and ur thoughts.
