48 divide by 8 is 6
6 (y) squared add 8 (x) squared is 100
Square root of 100 = 10

You are basically finding a triangle

a^2+b^2=c^2 (pythagorum therom I believe)

if a=x and b=y then c= the dotted line

First, solve for b

(x)(y)=area
8y=48
8y/8=48/8
y=6

SO

a^2+b^2=c^2
8^2+6^2=c^2
64+32=c^2
100=c^2
(square root of both sides)
10=c

y = 6

x = 8 units
area = 48 units
area = xy
8y=48
y 6
call the dotted line z
x^2 + y^2 = z^2
64 + 36=z^2
100= z^2
z = 10

area= base times height. so the eqaution for this is 8y=48. y=6. use pythagorean theorem. a sqaured (x=8) + b sqaured (y=6)= c sqaured (dotted). 8 squared(64) + 6 squared (36)= c sqaured (100). your answer is the radical of c squared. so yor is is 10, dotted line=10. :)

Formula for area of square = a(2) read this is a square.. Area= a(2) 14 = a(2) now take the square root of 14 because a has an exponent of 2 means square....take square root of 14 and the answer is 3.74
