End of my tether?

I am just about at the end of my tether but what worries me is why i needed to be tethered to begin with?

The two infinitive phrases in (b) suggest two different things to me. Tether is someone else's rope, by means of which I am constrained by him, essentially in captivity, my freedom of movement defined by the end of the tether. To be at the end of MY rope means I've run out of rope (resources) to use for whatever I want to use it (the rope or my resources) for. I like this explanation, especially the difference between "end of one's tether" and "end of my rope" I think you shouldn't allow yourself to be tethered. If you should come to the end of your own rope you can always ask for help, but not from the guy with the tether in his hands.
