Connect your DSL or Cable Modem to the wall
Connect the DSL or Cable Modem to the routers WAN Port
Connect a computer using an ethernet cable from the computers ethernet port to one of the four, usually, ethernet ports on the router.
Log into the routers setup, usually by opening a browser window and typing its IP address (i.e. 192.168.0.1), and configure it as needed.
It would be better if you used the install guide that came with the router, or if you dont have it then goto the manufacturers web site and download the one for your model router.

.
First your incomming internet connection wire(s) should go to your modem..
Then you will need a short ethernet cable to go from your modem to your Router
Then your will need a short ethernet cable to go to your 1st in line Computer#1.
Then you will need a longer ethernet cable to go from the router to your other computer#2.
This way both computers will be able to access the internet independently.
After these hardware connections are made,
restart your computer, it will "see" the router as new hardware, and it will be installed.
Since you now have a router, you can set up a network.
If you want to set up a Network, ask that question next.

Easiest way is to follow the directions (The CD) that came with the router. With some cable and DSL IP's - it might be best to clone the mac address of your computer to your router. Instructions for that can be found here:

Unhook the ethernet line from your modem, plug it into the in port of your router. Run the out port from router to your computer.
(This only works if you have Cable or DSL modem).
