If we weren't supposed to be eating them, they wouldn't be good for us.

Good lord I hope so. It would be way less satisfying knowing they were just dumb lumps of delicious meat. Cry, cows, cry.

When cattle are processed in a packing plant, it is federal law that they must be humanely slaughtered (Humane Slaughter Act of 1958). This is typically done by a cap and bolt gun. The gun fires a small retractible bolt into an area of the cow's brain that temporarily incapacitates the animal thus causing the animal to feel no pain. This action does not kill the animal. The animal is quickly hung from the ceiling and blood is drained from the jugular vein while the animal is still "knocked out" from the cap and bolt gun thus ending the animals life. There has been tremendous amounts of research done on this type of animal slaughter and results show that this is the most economically feasible and effective way to end the animal's life without causing much distress.

As far as chickens go, I haven't a clue.

I have never been killed but I suspect it would depend on how it was done, I am sure that the people who do chicken and cow killings are not concerned about the animal being in pain; I know our horse got tangled in some f*cking wire due to an idiot putting it in the pasture the other day with out telling us and one of our horses ( favorite)died a very painful and terrifing death. so ya I think animals feel pain when killed.

Just like humans and all creatures with a central nervous system it would completely depend on how they are killed. If a person(or other conscious animal) is shot in the head and killed instantly they probably wouldn't feel much of anything. If they are hung upside down with metal hooks jabbed through their legs and have their skin ripped off first, or submerged in boiling water while still conscious it would hurt like hell. The argument that vegetables also feel pain seems quite foolish as they have no central nervous system.

Well that would depend how they're killed, wouldn't it? But if you mean, when they're slaughtered -- i guess not, if it's done in a humane way.

But i don't agree on breeding animals as a means of food. Just because some people can't keep their legs closed and overpopulate the earth, doesn't mean we should be messing up the natural balance of things and abuse those animals. Oh well... too late now.

That's such a nerd question lol ... of course they do ,they are living organisms. If you push a knife into your skin that will hurt ,dont try it a home or you will feel the same way as cows and chikens ,the only diference is they CAN'T TALK...

Of course they do !!

All animals and even plants can feel pain...

However... It depends on the way how they got killed...

If it's inctanctly, then probably not... like any other animal or human...

:)

Yes the only things that don't are fish and shellfish (no nerves to feel the pain). All other animals feel pain.

It's very quick but yes. Cows are stunned now so they feel less pain than they used too.

Yes, briefly. But worse is the life they are forced to live caged and over-fed for their short, miserable existence.

It's pretty cruel and not really necessary.

If they are rendered unconscious or numb before being killed, then, no.

But usually they are not, so yes.

They would feel pain as long as they are aware and not yet dead, unconscious, or numb.
