Off the top of my head:

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Say It Loud (Black and Proud) by James Brown
Living in America by James Brown
Papa was a Rolling Stone by Temptations
For the Love of Money by Temptations
Ball of Confusion by Temptations

Check out Harry Belafonte, too, he was really active in the Civil Rights Movement and his music had to have reflected this...not familiar with his stuff though.

Here is a website about this very thing:

Civil Rights Movement and the music of the time very much influenced each other, not only with RB artists but white artists as well, folk singers, rockers, and the like.

Rappers are pretty political when they aren't talking about bitches and hos, drugs and drinking, and bling and money.

Oh yeah, check out Arrested Development too. They are very political.

My favourite political rappers are Non-Phixion or Immortal Technique but Fight the Power is a good one I also like The 4th Branch or Info Junkies I gotta say Apocalypse 91 - The Enemy Strikes Black because it was the First CD I ever owned in '91 and I will leave you with this gem from the sleeve liner that says from the great Chuck D "To all the Rappers to be : First of all Finish School. Rappers Mostly Rap About What They Know About and if the Knowledge is Limited the Rap Willl Eventually Be"

The only songs that come to mind is:
From a Distance by The Divine Miss M (Beth Midler)
and
WAR by Sly and the Family Stone(?)

Both from a time of controversial war actions

N.W.O. by Ministry
Not exactly R&B, but it's worthy of a mention.
