You probably will not be competitive for most 4-year colleges at this point. You would probably need at least a year at a community college (with good grades) before you could transfer to another school. It may require two years, at which point you might have earned an associate's degree. After that, you will stand a much better chance at getting accepted at a university.

Don't give up! Too many people underestimate the quality of education that community colleges offer. I took a couple of courses at a local CC just to get some extra credits and felt the quality of the courses and instructors was comparable to my regular undergraduate university. There's nothing wrong with going there for a year or two to get started in higher education. It's usually a lot cheaper too.

Well, most colleges require you to have at least an 18 to be accepted and a 2.5 or higher GPA. Additionally, if you score below a certain number on any ACT section, you may have to take remedial courses. You may need to check with various colleges and see what their requirements are. Otherwise, I would stay in community college until you can boost your GPA significantly and re-take the ACT to try and get a better score.

Start with a community college. They are cheaper. You will also get some assistance with courses you may not be very strong in. The classes will be smaller than in a university. You can get more one on one assistance. You can go for 2 years, get an associates degree then transfer to a 4 year institution.
