my daughter is 8 yrs old. her bottom constantly smells. she takes a shower every other day even though sometimes i make her do it daily. she wears cotton underwear and ive done everything in my power to show her how to wipe herself. im talking about her front side not her actual bottom. I feel bad for her because im sure shes embarrased when i mention it. its not overpowering but when shes getting ready for bed and only has underwear on and no pants is when its noticeable. has anyone else had this issue??? What should i do??

A lot of people don't know that sweat doesn't stink, its the bacteria that feed on the sweat and this isn't just true for sweat or armpits. If your daughter is having odor problems, you DEFINATELY want to have it checked out. There are non-invasive culture tests that can be done. We have whats called "normal flora" in our bowels. Simplified, its bacteria thats supposed to be there, and ONLY there and girls around this age sometimes do a little more "bacteria mixing" than they should. Somethings will clear up on their own, others will not and could lead to more serious problems. It depends on what route you want to take as far as monitoring this issue, but you may need to figure out a way to see if this is happening only AFTER a bowel movement and how long after the shower and so on. If I could make a suggestion, atleast CALL your family doctor and she/he can give you some advice and suggestion on when and if to bring her in.

Ok, so she wipes front to back when toileting and cleaning her peri anal area?
At night, it is better that she wears no pants at all, just a nightie....let it breathe as I tell my daughters!
Don't try to disguise the smell with over powering deodorants, they can make it all worse.
I would perhaps consult the doctor or health nurse in this case, as it may, as of course you realise, damage her self esteem and the like. It may just be something bacterial in which case use of natural yoghurt with live cultures in it can often help. Both ingested at break fast time and smeared on the peri anal area and left on for 5 minutes as like a faial mask, then cleansed off with warm water. Keeping the area dry as possible too.
Good luck.

At first I thought you were talking about BM. If you are speaking of vaginal odor you might want to take her to her dr. for a check up. You could be talking about a yeast infection, bacterial infection, or some other condition with her reproductive system. Get it checked out. I'm a single dad and have raised three girls ... shyness doesn't help a medical condition.

at first confirm she wears socks with footwear. And use socks that are thick. Make a batch of robust black tea(like lipton), as quickly because it cools have her soak her ft in it for approximately quarter-hour, or until the smell disapates.try this daily until the smell vanishes. repeat if it returns. The tanic acid interior the tea is what kills the smell. Or have her soak her ft in a mix of water and apple cider vinager, this works exceedingly lots.

She should take a shower EVERY DAY not every other day, and you should probably re-show her how to clean herself and make sure she does it...it's possible she doesn't do what you showed her. She should also probably take a bath with warm water once in a while instead of a shower. Hope that helped

Please make sure she is wiping from front to back ... make sure she is air-drying after showers/bathes before placing her panties on. My sister had this when she was your daughters age please see a doctor it is an infection you don't want her to have future problems they could relate to worse issues later
