I am planning on being a doctor, and would like to find somewhere that I could work at that could help me start off. At 17, I'm not quite sure whats out there for me. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time! <3 Kat

You might look for registration desk work at a hospital, those jobs are usually entry level, or the reception desk at a doctor's office (a lot of times they are willing to train you, because each office is run differently).

Most patient care jobs at least need certification, like nursing assistants, and even unit secretaries...at least in the major hospitals they do.

you could check with your local hospitals and see if they have anything like a candy stripper position open. You don't really get to do much medical analysis of the patients, but you get to be around the environment and you pick stuff up. Or see if your school has a program where you can work at hospitals. My school has what they call HOSA or Health Occupations for Students in America, and well after like a year or so, they get to start going to rotations at the hospital, they'll stay at one section of the hospital for like 2 months or so and then go to a different section. Or try to become a secretary or something in a doctor's office, still it's not much to do with the patients, but you get to be around the environment.

There are many jobs you could apply for. Some examples are home health, med tech, nurse's aid (many places will send you to class for certification free), unit clerk, registration, some labs will train you to draw blood, the list is endless.

You're going to love this. Have you heard of Eva Vertes?

She was in the same position as you. Check one of her presentations on cancer research:
