I think Hayek came up with a pretty good explanation (not that I favor his non-scientific economics). Those who learn a lot tend to feel like they can do other people a lot of good with their learning, if they have the power. However, they probably haven't learned how little they can actually do (given the actual limits faced by the government in shaping the economy), because this usually doesn't actually fall within their area of expertise. Thus, they tend to favor big government, because they think that the learned can do a lot better job in centralized, powerful roles than the unlearned (most people) can do if this power is spread throughout the society (as it is in a capitalist economy).
If you're looking for a cutting response to their Marxist stupidity, however, try noting to them that they got their degree in English, and not in economics, and that the vast majority of economists (including Keynesians) are in favor of a generally capitalist society. Thus, anti-property and anti-business John Lennon economists are like the creationists of economics. No one who actually studies the discipline agrees with them, but their ideas are still really popular with those not educated in the subject.

By law, your teacher has to grade your paper as fairly as everyone else's. If she gave you the thesis and your topic fits perfectly with the thesis and you really don't know anything else that's good to write on, then you would be doing exactly what she assigned by following the thesis. If she gives you a bad grade and you write what you think is a good essay, you have a legal right to adress the school board, have the essay rechecked by a different professor, and if they don't believe you got the grade you deserve, they can obligate the teacher to regrade it. But you have to make sure you write a very good paper. Follow the thesis exactly and research your topic very well, site your sources and everything. You should write it so that if she does give you a bad grade, it would be obvious that your essay is better than some of the other people's who got better grades than you.

Try to get a degree in English espousing conservative ideas. You either have to lie or convert.
Those who have taken over the profession severely penalize any other kind of thinking in their classrooms by giving poor grades.
Unfortunately, it takes unethical and immoral behavior to get past their natural biases for a conservative to make it into the ranks and reach a point where they are able to make changes. That conflicts with the conservatives' moral and ethical principals.
The liberal mindset easily justifies such behavior. That's how they took over this profession (and several others) in the first place.

Becuase those who can , will. Those who can't, teach!. They are no different then the actors guild. BS in a big sack. They are leftist because if they stood a chance at having their arguments heard (that is if they had any merit) they would need a platform to begin with.
Liberals are great with starting BS, "you can't do this because..." "you can't apply American philosophy to ? because..."
But if you were to tell a liberal to shut their f'ing mouth until they could come up with a solution instead of condemnation, we would end up with a totally Republican party.
And that wouldn't be fair, would it? And I don't want to start propoganda, but...get the liberals off of welfare, and the conservatives off of welfare reform, and maybe then we can get those RETARTED bastards' to meet on neutral ground.
Just a suggestion. I believe that we can win the war with violence. But I am a man, and a redneck!!!

Stalin said in order to control a government you have to control two things. School and the media. The leftists took this to heart.

It's the nature of the beast in social sciences and liberal arts. That's why. Students are indoctrinated/brainwashed not taught. That is exactly why creationism is not taught and the evolution "theory" taught as fact when it has been debunked. It's called secular humanism a religion unto itself.

You are probably attending to college to get a better job and get rich. Your professor attended college to pursue the idea of liberals of enlightenment through academia. This puts you two in a natural conflict of ideas. He seeking to escape the rat race through higher education and you're most likely to jump into that pool using your higher education. Live and let live...I say.

The forces of Socialism or Communism have control of all of our educational institutions. It is nearly impossible to advance in a career in education unless you fall in line.

what did they say?
why is it that conservatives love to make accusations... yet it's always a pretty chilly day in hades when they actually list the actual citable reasons they believe something...
I had some that were, some that weren't...
