I would have to say Odishon -- Audition, it's a Japanese movie about this girl who is crazy. It's pretty good scary yeah but more disturbing. Also The Devil's Backbone this one is really good. I saw it for my film class and it's scary but has a good story behind it.

Bravo did this thing a couple of Halloween's ago but they always re-air it with the 100 scariest movies. They had a lot of foreign films, Italian horror movies and stuff like that. Check out the website and look through the list. Most of the movies they talk about are the original movies not the remakes that have been coming out.

Whilst Japanese and Korean films can be quite chilling, a lot of them aren't great at making sense. However there are a couple of european films I would reccomend.

Funny Games, I think it is Swedish (there are subtitles!), it's a really disturbing film and it also makes you question why you are watching as you go along. Brilliant!

Switchblade Romance(UK title)/Haute tension (French title)/High Tension (US title (French film with subtitles) Terrifyingly atmospheric and with a twist that comes out of nowhere and pokes you in the eye with a rusty spoon!

There's a japanese movie called Infernal Affairs (it does have subtitles)....the new Scorsese film The Departed is based on it, but the original is so much better, it's a great thriller movie!!!

I liked Ju Rei, Battle Royale, and Suicide Club. All three of which are Japanese. They are creepy as well as thrillers. I prefer Japanese horror/thriller movies as a genre so these are just three of which ones I can think of right now that I appreciated. Hope you do as well.

(Sidenote: Ju Rei has nothing to do with Ju-on (the Grudge) although the Japanese version was better. :)

Hi! I would like to suggest "SHUTTER." It's really a unique movie...It's really scary and I couldn't sleep for three nights.! It's a Thai movie with English subtitles (of course). I bought it from Ebay. I would suggest it if you're planning to stay awake for nights.!
