http://www.mothering.com/articles/pregnancy_birth/birth_preparation/marijuana.html
Marijuana, like any drug prescription or otherwise should only be used appropriately and has risks. The risks of consuming marijuana for medical purposes are very small, particularly in comparison to malnutrition and other anti-nausea drugs.
Her husband using marijuana will have no effect whatsoever on their baby.
Also marijuana is not physically addictive, so no withdrawal. Sorry but you need to get the facts, not some half-baked paranoia from people trying to justify the "war on drugs". Who decided which drugs would be prescription and which illegal anyway?

The only thing I can find about pot use by the father is it only lowers the sperm count and affects the ability for the sperm to fertilize the egg. Pot used by the father only is not linked to birth defects.
However, if a couple can't agree about what's best for the family now, it's best not to start a family. I say your sister should dump the guy and find someone who has more similar morals and values.
**Edited to add: It appears as though you are asking the wrong question. It seems like you should've asked,"How do I get my sister's boyfriend/husband/whatever to stop smoking pot?"
People who want to waste money and brain cells on stupid habits shouldn't have children in the first place. I know some people who use pot very sparingly and I think such use could be okay, but you make it sound like it's an everyday thing. So my answer still is: have your sister dump the guy and find someone more responsible.
Many smokers have seen pictures of tar-covered lungs, and guess what? They still smoke! It's been shown that second-hand smoke is harmful. They don't care! You can't make him stop smoking. It's something he has to want all by himself.
(***I think mystic_eye_cda's suggestion of calling the cops could be very effective in eliminating the second-hand pot smoke!***)

What does he have to do with this? I mean if the mother was doing drugs during the pregnancy then the baby would most likely go through withdrawls but if the father is the druggy then how can he affect the baby? It can't.

http://www.thinkpregnancy.org/english/marijuana.htm I couldn't find any images of drug addicted babies...I think most of them are premature, so they are tiny, hooked up to machines, possibly w/ brain damage and that sort of thing...good for you for trying to protect your sister's baby...as much as you might want him to change, he has to want to change, you can't do it for him...it's a hard thing to learn, but you'll save yourself a lot of heartache if you just realize that!! I learned my lesson the hard way! Best of luck to you and your sister!
