I mean is it a macho thing or what. Because you can not measure music or musical ability. Music is an art form and it's nonsensical to compare guitarists in this way.

For instance If I said Rory Gallacher, somebody willl say Stevie ray Vaughan was better.

And if I said Albert Lee, then somebody else will say Roy Buchanan .

And if I asked someone if he had ever heard of Tommy Emmanuel, he would probably say no, but he knew an even BETTER guitarist, even though he had never heard Tommy emmanuel.

See what I mean? the whole premise is idiotic. It isn't even ABOUT music.

Wow tough question.
My opinion :
For sure yes you are we can't measure music or musical ability. Everybody say this guitarist is good, and this one is better and tht man is the best, all of that just depend to what everybody ever listen, ever see or depend of what they think or judge. No more than that. So everything about this is only the matter of he / she judge it, cause everybody have their own answer for that. It will never the same.
Like what any magazine do, they do polling every readers or everybody through the internet, then they have the top 100 greatest guitarist in the world, and they put it at their magazine. Oh what a crap to see. Who care about the top 100 greatest guitarist through the polling. All we need is the greatest guitarist from our own heart, and that's the best one.

Yeah.. Like If I say John Mayer is a good guitarist.. my friend will be going to say another unknown guitarist is a better one... Like he is a hardcore or an expert in the guitar field...

People.. Music is so subjective!.. Even if Elvis? Michael Jackson? Led Zeppelin? Some people think they are legends.. phenomenal.. but.. to some people... theirs music just suck! (Not to me of course)

haha

Quite, music is always a matter of personal opinion, that changes all the time and depends on your mood.

Also sounds like a bit of one upmanship's going on with others going 'I can better that'. You know who you enjoy listening to the best and that should be what's most important to you. Don't let them irritate you!

The majority of fans and punters do not really know what original, innovative and inspired guitar playing is as they are hoodwinked by the vast array of special effects that artistes have at their disposal

Probably because there are so many freaking guitarists...and because some people always have to outdo everyone else.

are you going to spend all your time asking pointless questions to faceless people on the internet instead of going out there into the world and connecting with people?
