if the company gives you the run around and wants a sxxt load of money just goto the hardware store and buy a micromesh kit and blend the scratches out. its basicly sand paper in differnt size grit. its so thin it doenst really scratch at all, usualy come with about 15-20 peices of sandpaper that get lighter in grit, start at the top and work your way down until its completely clear, you might wana ask the shop guy how it works so you dont over do it. they use it to get scratches out of plexyglass and other plastics which i assume your phone face is made from

Hopefully they have one of the insurance programs that most companies offer, and can get a new phone sent to him directly.
If not, you might try googling that brand and model of phone. Be careful, some phones are not able to have certain parts replaced without buying a new phone.
If completely lost, just call the cell phone provider and ask them :)
