Percent means per hundred. 10 percent is just another way of saying "ten out of a hundred," or ten hundredths. If exactly 10 percent of your 100 M&Ms are yellow, then 90 of them are some other color and 10 of them are yellow.
To convert a fraction to a percentage, divide the numerator by the denominator. Then move the decimal point two places to the right (which is the same as multiplying by 100) and add a percent sign.
For example: Given the fraction 5/8 what is the percentage?
.625 .625 x 100 = 62.5 or 62.5%
------
8 )5.000
4 8
---
20
16
--
40
40
So 5/8 of your M&Ms would be 62 1/2 of every 100.
To change a percentage to a fraction, divide it by 100 and reduce the fraction or move the decimal point to the right until you have only integers:
10% = 10/100 = 1/10
62.5% = 62.5/100 = 625/1000
625/1000 = 125/200 = 25/40 = 5/8

Hi Ariel, percentages are really simple. For example, if you have a $10 item and it's 30% off, You can either just divide 10 by 3 and subtract the result from 10. Or you can use a calculator is just divide 10 by 1.3. If you need to multiply 10 by 30% you can multiply 10 by 1.3. Also if you are trying to figure out a % score on a test - say, for example, you received 36 points on a 45 point test, just divide 36 by 45 (or 36/45) and you will get 80%. Good Luck. Hope this helps.
Just keep in mind that if you are dividing or multiplying by percentages, just convert it to a decimal (for example 30% = .3 or 3%=.03) and add 1 (1.3 or 1.03). This will make things much (much) easier.

The word percent actually breaks down to : per (for every) cent (one hundred). So when you make a score of 34/65 on a test, when you find the percent you are finding out how many you would have right if the test was out of 100. This way you have a common ground to compare things. To do it, you take the top number and divide it by the bottom number (get a decimal number), then times 100. OR if you have a decimal number or whole number, just times by 100. (.5 x100= 50% 5.0 x100=500%)

take the fraction. take the bottom # and divide the top
ex:
1/2 then 1 divided by 2 = .5
then the decimal, turn into a percent
.5 = 50%

If you are doing fractions, like lets say 1/2, then you would divide 1/2 and get 0.5 which equals 50%. However if it was something like 0.57 then it would be 57%. Hope this helps.

Cross multiply. say you need to know what 70% of 12 is.
X/12 = 70/100
12 x70= 840, X x 100=100x
840/100x= x is 8.4

multiply by the decimal form
just take the percent, put a decimal in front of it, and take off the percent"%" sign and multiply by what u want.
40% of 96
.40 X 96 = what ever 40% of 96 is.

ok um put it in a ratio. like, lets say you get a grade back on a quiz and its a 20/29. what you would do is. 20/29=x/100 and then cross multiply and find x.
[x=68.97]
