2 1/2x+1 2/3=4 1/6

(1) One way
First, change mixed numbers to improper fractions.
5/2 x + 5/3 = 25/6

Then I would multiply both sides by 6 to get rid of fractions.
15 x + 10 = 25

Subtract 10 from both sides
15 x = 15

x = 1

Check your work
2 1/2 + 1 2/3 =
2 3/6 + 1 4/6 =
3 7/6 = 4 1/6
This looks correct

(2) Another way
First change fractions to common denominator of 6
2 3/6 x + 1 4/6 = 4 1/6

Subtract 1 4/6 from both sides
2 3/6 x = 4 1/6 - 1 4/6 = 3 7/6 - 1 4/6
2 3/6 x = 2 3/6
so x = 1

Change 2 1/2 to 2 3/6 and change 1 2/3 to 1 4/6....then add 2 3/6 plus 1 4/6 =6 7/6 = 7 1/6

In order to add together you had to get like denominators in the fractions.

Change the mixed numbers into proper fractions, you do know how to do that right?

- 2 1/2 changes into 5/2.

- Then 1 2/3 changes into 5/3.

- Then find the common denumbtier [spell wrong] and that is....6.

- 5/2 times 5/3 is.....25/6 right?

- Then....change that 25/6 into a proper fraction again, that'll be 4 1/6. You were right!!! =]
