Men can get vasectomies at 18 years old and get very little grief about it from doctors. Women have a harder time.
Most OB/Gyn's won't do the operation on a woman under 24 or on a woman that has never had a child unless there is a medical reason.

Since you are so young and have not had a child, you will most likely have a very difficult, if not impossible, time convincing a doctor to perform the operation. You should talk to a doctor about your other birth control options.

As far as cost, I had health insurance when I got my tubes tied, but I understand it to cost between $10,000.00 and $20,000.00

I can't tell you the cost, because it depends on a lot of things. However, at your age no ethical doctor is going to perform a tubal ligation. Each doctor sort of sets their own guidelines. They are consider not only your age but how many children you've had. For example if at 22 you already had 4 children, a doctor would be more inclined to consider it. I would like to suggest the Norplant implant as an alternative. 5 small, flexible rods are inserted under the skin inside the upper arm. It's almost immediately effective and almost immediately reversible. They are good for 5 years, which means you don't have to think about birth control for 5 years, but haven't taken the drastic measure of becoming permanently infertile. They use a non-estrogen based hormone so they don't carry some of the same side effects as the pill, shot or patch. Talk to your doctor--there are other options available to you.

I know in the state of Arizona you half to be 25. I think it might be the same for any other state. You are only 22 you should really think about this. You may fall in love if not already and they might want to have children with you some day. You may change your mind later in life, maybe consider something else like an IUD last 5 to 10yrs it might be great for you at this point in your life, but you have your own mind and no one can make decisions for you, so good luck in what you choose.

I believe at your age, and since you havent had any children, you will have a hard time getting a doctor to tie your tubes. You can ask, but I would really think about it first and have a really good reason for the doctor.

consider this: you can still safely have children 20 years from now. 20 years ago you were 2. a lot changes in 20 years.

Wow such a perminant thing for someone just starting to begin life. I would do something a little less drastic until you are older. I am 31 with three children and had my tubes tied at 25 "knowing I would never want more children. I was wrong that was a huge mistake on my part...........

There is a 99% chance that u wont get pregnant by getting ur tube tied ....BUT i know 3 women with that 1% change that have gotten pregnant even though they were "fixed". and i think u have to be 25 now to get ur tube tied.ask ur Gyno . but i hope if u do get it u wont change ur mind later on in life to have kids because it cost over 10 thousand dollars to get them "untied" ( i know a woman right now that is saving up her money to get then untied )again and i heard that it hurts (i don't know myself that it but that what I've heard) .

Uhm well i wouldnt know how much it costs.
Your 22 still young. Maybe you shud just be on the pill if you arnt already.
You probably havnt even had time to think about it.
Make sure you are ready for this BIG step.
Your not too young to have it done./ I know that for sure
GOODLUCK love.
