I'm 12. I've ever played the guitar or piano/keyboard. I've only played the glass flute and recorder.

Do you think I could play the Keytar?
And should I start with 45 keys (or more or less)?

I believe there are no guitar skills required in playing a Keytar.(www.roland.com/products/en/AX-7/ - 26k ) It is a MIDI keyboard controller. The skills required would be playing keyboard and MIDI programing. Take some keyboard lessons, get yourself a Keytar, and learn how to program it.

There is another product I've seen on the Internet called a Keytar that has strings like a guitar, and only a few keyboard keys.(www.keytarinc.com) I would assume this is not the insturment you are talking about. You mention 45 keys, so I guess it's the MIDI controller you want to know about.

It's a crossover that wouldn't really help you in any sense - you'll neither play a guitar nor a keyboard - I'd suggest learning BOTH the guitar and piano, then you can easily move to keytar or anything else. With keytar, your left hand won't be used to playing a keyboard (or strings of a guitar), and that cannot be compensated for later on. Buy a smaller Taylor or Martin guitar (awesome instruments at some $200 - 300) and/or a nice Yamaha synth, all at musiciansfriend.com or music123.com.
