~~ The above answer is quite correct regarding the house insurance.
Most insurance companies have pulled out of Florida.

~~ And yes, the population is generally older with many, many retirees.
Putting that aside, it is a lovely, scenic part of the country, (as many coastal areas are).
Full of laid-back communities.

~~ I have found a great link for you.
It has most of the towns and cities (of the west coast) listed.

~~ Naples (they claim) is the crown jewel of Southwest Florida -- nestled on the sun drenched beaches of the Gulf of Mexico.
~~ Naples is known for world class shopping, dining and abundant, challenging golf courses.
~~ It is also, only steps away from island seclusion or the untamed tropical wilderness of The Everglades.
~~ With a population of just over 20,000, Naples is not too crowded and yet has all the facilities you would need.
~~ The median resident age is 60.7 years (a lot of elderly)
~~ It is home to some very exclusive waterfront properties.

Okay...I can enlighten you a bit, but it would help to know your age/work status, etc.

We vacation there every winter break. I think that it would be a great place to live, but the summers have got to be incredibly hot. There are all the necessary stores, a great variety of socio-economic groups even though the upper class is most visibly represented. There is great dining and it is approximately 45 minutes from Ft. Meyers/Ft. Meyers airport. I love it. If I moved to Florida, that would be the spot.

If I recall correctly, it was a fairly upper-class, seniors oriented retirement community... -A popular retirement destination. (But be forewarned; they're one of the few parts of Florida that has NOT been hit by a hurricane in recent years... -And if you know anything about Murphy's Law...). Also, good luck on getting ANY KIND of flood or storm insurance down there (and DON'T think you won't need it- or I guarantee Murphy's Law will kick in!). Happy moving!
