Memory Card reader/writer only comes with memory card reader/writer. U have to buy your own SD, MMC, or memory stick. i used to have one for my pc but since i got a laptop it already comes with it. for some cheap memory card readers go to

A card reader just reads the card you put in it with information that you have stored on the card such as a camara's media card.

lol the point of a card reader is to, in fact, read cards. so yes you have to put one in.

Just like a disk drive, you need a disk to make it work.
