I'm a hard-core adherent of evolution. But I'm with you. There are ways to reconcile the two ... UNLESS the only idea of creation you can accept is a child-like LITERAL interpretation of Genesis describing the origin of man, life, earth, and the universe in six literal risings-and-settings (days) of the terrestrial sun, and an age of the universe of about 6,000 years old, which is about as plausible as saying the earth weighs about 6,000 pounds.
Those people who insist on that kind of literal interpretation of the Bible, just destroy the power of the Bible to answer the really *important* questions. It is *they* who reduce the Bible to an absurd fairy tale.
But if you see Creation as a fantastic, ongoing miracle, a teleological mystery ... one in which evolution describes in beautiful detail the HOW, but says absolutely nothing about the WHY ... then Creation and Evolution are just two sides to very different questions, and can indeed work side-by-side.

Evolution is a fact, an observation, that life can, has and will change over time. Creationism is a religious belief, and there is no scientific evidence to support it.
A theory is an explaination of a fact. The Theory of evolution by natural selection, or Darwinism, explains the fact of evolution much the same as the theory of gravity explains how gravity it thought to work. The Germ theory of disease explains how and why organisms get sick because of microbes.

"God creates us" is a statement without meaning, since no one can agree on how to define "god", much less whether it exists or not.
Evolution, on the other hand, is a proven fact based on hundreds of years of observations around the world and in the last 50 years on the biochemistry of the DNA molecule, which we now know down to the last atom. To deny evolution after all this evidence is in requires an obstinacy only seen in religious fanatics, who are insane anyway.
However, lots of people keep their religion intact by accepting evolution as "God's" way of creating new species. Nothing wrong with that, except for the out-of-thin-air god hypothesis.

There is evidence for evolution and none for creation and a creator. I am a scientist and I study from a evolutionary framework. I am also a Spinozian pan-theists, so I do not have the confusion of a creator god that has no evidence in support of him and no rational explanation of his existence.
PS secretsause. I must respectfully disagree. Charles Darwin answered the question, " why is man ", in 1859. Evolutionary biology deals with the " why " questions all the time. As an ethologist, I always ask; what is the ultimate causation of that behavior, a " why " question. I can only deal with the evidence, myself, as belief does not concern me overmuch. I support my beliefs with the truth, as other support their " truths " with belief.

What you're talking about is something called "intelligent design". It's basically the belief that God created humans, who evolved with his help. It's kind of like a middle ground between Creationism and Evolution.

I believe that God is the Creator of all life and everything in existence. That said, I also believe He made things to evolve. I don't believe in the Theory of Evolution, yet I do believe there is scientific evidence to support that life does evolve and change. I believe that all life was created by God, but that He designed this life to evolve. I don't, however, believe that humans evolved from primates. The Bible states that God created man as we know today. I believe that humans have evolved in that they could have been very small or very large and have shifted in stature through the ages, or that biological conditions that may have existed centuries ago may have changed through the years. For instance, if you ever visit a historical landmark or old home from the 18th or 19th century, or look at shoes or clothing worn from those time periods, you will notice that doorways were smaller because apparently people were shorter, and shoes and clothing were also smaller. Average men were about 5'4" or 5'6" and women about 5'0" to 5'2" in those days. When you conduct scientific experiments, one can see how things evolve and change, so I believe it is possible - I just don't believe that birds evolved from flying dinosaurs, dolphins from land dinosaurs, humans from apes, etc. I totally agree with the guy who says that it is an insult to the Creator to think that He had to have several tries to get it right. I had never considered that perspective before. I am only saying that I believe that God made life with the ability to change (cells are always mutating - hence we have viruses and disease), but that does not mean that we have evolved from one form to another.

Evolution is a scientific theory with millions of years of evidence and hundreds of published studies.
Creationism is a fairy tale based on 4 lines of poorly translated text from a single book, who's authenticity has never been verified.
The decision is yours.

The above answer is very wrong.
Creation is God stepping into the void and speaking the physical into existence. God says in Romans 5:14, "Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam‘s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come." This is basically saying that until Adam sinned and saw his spirit die, nothing died. Adam's sin produced the first death, which was not God's plan. (However, free will humans ARE God's plan, so humans who choose death must be allowed their choice.)
Evolution, conversely, requires MANY deaths to make incremental advances, which idea is an insult to any creator. Think about it: we believe you created all, but you had to go thru a zillion rough copies and mistakes before you finally got it right. Don't know about you, but I'd be insulted if someone said that to me. Genesis 1:4, "And God saw the light, that it was good," is repeated the next few days, declared over the whole creation that it was "good." We, all of us humans, agree that death is not good. We thus must decide whether we have for a Creator a monster who loves death or Loving God who loves life and hates death. If the latter, than it's us humans who have a problem.

God created evolution. I hunt deer here in the mountains of Virginia because God made people so we are more highly evolved than the deer, and Ruger made rifles for me to use when I shoot other less evolved creatures so I can eat them. Real evolution in action. The survival of the fittest, and unless a mountain lion eats me I'm it.
