Abortion is a medical procedure that should only be discussed between the woman and her doctor. I have no right to infringe in her privacy. I would not want anyone to violate my rights and tell me what to do with my body. I have no right taking away a female's rights, born or unborn.

But I am AGAINST abortion. I totally despise abortion and if I were a woman would never have one. BUT then again I am not a woman and would never know how it is to be one and will NOT JUDGE the circumstances of their abortion: whether they were raped, whether the pregancy will hurt her and the child's health or whatever, that is NOT my business. It is a medical procedure btwn her and her doc.

I am not pretentious enough to think that others cannot think for theirselves to be morally right. I have belief in other people and the choices they make.
So in conclusion I am pro choice, since Jesus said not to judge... but AGAINST abortion. Does that make sense?

It makes complete sense to me. I feel that abortion is a sad, sad thing and wouldn't want anyone I was involved with to have one. But, it would be up to her at the bottom line. I would give my advise and offer to help, but would stand by a woman's choice.
Unlike some people, you seem to have considered the issue a lot and have come to a well thought out opinion. Good for you!

I understand what you are saying and respect it. I am pro-choice and never having had to make the decision regarding having an abortion I will never judge a woman that has to make this decision. I don't feel anyone has the right to tell a woman she MUST carry a child that either she doesn't want, cant take care of, was conceived through rape/incest, would be born so disabled it more then likely would be left to live its life living in a bed in some nursing home. Adoption is great, tell that to the thousands of kids waiting to be adopted. The only time I have anything negative to say about abortion since in reality a fetus can not live outside the human body until 24 weeks gestation and even at that age wouldn't survive without life long disability, is when people use it as a form of birth control

That being said I think people need to realize women that have aboritons more often then not do not take the decision lightly or make it spur of the moment and should not be judged. And this is NOT based on any religious beliefs just personal opinion.

Furthermore I just read a response to this post by someone else and I want to know how can you support the death penalty and be against abortion if you believe abortion is murder then what exactly is the death penalty?

That is basically my position also. Any individual should have the maximum control over their life that is allowed by prudent laws, and futhermore unreasonable laws that impinge upon an individuals right should not be made. I am now 60 and have known women who had abortions, miscarraiges or one or several children and even some who could not have children. All these and other women have complicated lives and must make complicated decisions in which I will participate as a counselor only if I am asked, and then only if I feel I can help. I wcould not support a law that limited a woman's options but I also do not like abortion as the solution.

I think most men, me included, want to remove ourselves from an emotionally draining decision. Until we can fully understand the emotional aspects of abortion, we'll be pro-choice on a disgusting and horrible procedure that is abortion.

Actually, it doesn't in my opinion. The only reason I can think of for anyone to be against abortion is that you believe it is the taking of a life. If that is what you believe, then why on earth would you feel it's a mother-to-be's legitimate choice. I don't have the choice of whether or not I should run over a pedestrian who crosses in front of me at a stoplight. Why? Because preserving his/her life is considered a more compelling state interest than me arriving at my destination 10 seconds later.

If one does not believe abortion is killing a human being, I suppose this line of reasoning is not valid, but what other reason could you have for opposing abortion in the first place?

EDIT: I see I've already received a couple of thumbs downs. While that's certainly your right, could someone please explain why they disagree with my reasoning? Is there any reason to oppose abortion if you do NOT believe it's a life? And if that's the case, why SHOULDN'T it be banned like any other killing? I'm not trying to argue, I just seriously don't understand how the same person can feel both ways at once.

yes it does! Men, generically speaking, have a free will, however, with the free will you should do the moral act of not having an abortion. Therefore, you have free choice to do a moral thing. God didn't tie us to a wall, we have free choice but we do a lot of bad things.

Yes it does make sense. I agree with what you say. I could never have an abortion but that's just me. I would feel guilty if I did. However I think it should be legal because it's none of my business and I worry about desperate women going to get a back alley abortion if it were illegal.

Makes perfect sense. I feel the same way. I, as a woman, would never have an abortion myself. However, simply because I am against abortion does not mean I feel other women should feel the same way nor do I judge them for their choices. This is a personal decision to make and not one for our government or general public to decide.

It makes since till you have a child. I was like you before I was handed the greatest gift in the world, my son, Christopher. I will never support abortion again. I am saddened that I ever was pro killing of a baby that has done nothing but be created by unready parents.

Yes! I agree!
Abortion will exist even if it becomes illegal.
It always has. It always will.
Sad though! Thankfully I have never had to make that decision for myself!
