I was going to say the exact same animal,Japanese frill shark.. Never heard of it before. Does it not look like the Lochness monster? This shark likes the cold deep water and only occasionally seen. Does this also describe Lochness?

My vote is for the platypus too. Nose like a duck. Behaves and plays like an otter, except that the platypus is vegetarian. Venom in that hind leg barb to rival that of a snake. And - of course - laying eggs. Wow! What a combination.

Just a correction for a previous respondent. Platypuses are not vegetarian, they use special sensors in their bills to detect electrical energy from worms and yabbies (small fresh water crustaceans) in the mud.
But you're right, they are strange creatures. The poison from a male's hind foot barb can kill a fox, and put a person in hospital.

Strange. I was also thinking of a platypus to find out others here had the same idea.

I THINK JUST ABOUT ANY ANIMAL IN AUSTRALIA CAN BE CONSIDERED STRANGE AND AMAZING. LIKE THE DUCK BILL PLATYPUS FOR INSTANCE. OR THE TASMANIAN DEVIL. YES, I KNOW IT'S ORIGIN IS TASMANIA, BUT IT'S PART OF AUSTRALIA. STEVE IRWIN OPENED MY EYES TO THE MANY WONDERS OF AUSTRALIA. HE MADE CROCODILES MORE THAN JUST A DANGEROUS ANIMAL, SAME WITH SNAKES. ALTHOUGH, SNAKES STILL FREAK ME OUT.
