I used to read Nancy Drew...I loved those books until I was in about sixth grade. I started reading them when I was eight, lol. I was a little advanced. By the time I hit middle school, I was trying to read War and Peace.
Anyway, my favorite books are (in no particular order):
1. Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz
2. 1984 by George Orwell
3. Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice
I also really like Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. And Insomnia by Stephen King. And Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes (if you haven't read it, you should. It's really sad, though.), and Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, then I also love Dante, and St Augustine, and John Milton and.....
Oh, who am I kidding. I have hundreds of favorite books.

Jean M. Auel's - Earth Children's series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth%27s_Children (particularly The Valley of Horses) Based on Ice Age cro-magnons "The Others" and their relationships between Neanderthals "The Clan". Very detailed and has some heated romance later.
Joanna Campbell's Thoroughbred series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thoroughbred_Series I FINALLY own the entire series since collecting them around age 10 or so.
Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Chronicles http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Warlord_Chronicles http://www.amazon.com/Winter-King-Arthur-Warlord-Chronicles/dp/0312156960/sr=1-1/qid=1169869262/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-5985084-6528966?ie=UTF8&s=books A nice twist to the King Arthur legend.
John Jakes' The Kent Family Chronicles http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bicentennial_Series http://www.amazon.com/Bastard-Kent-Family-Chronicles-Vol/dp/0451211030/sr=1-3/qid=1169869355/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/102-5985084-6528966?ie=UTF8&s=books A realistic, dramatic way of following a family through the founding of America, beginning with the founder (Philip Kent) immegrating to the Colonies from 1770's France all the way to his great-great-great grandchildren surviving in the late 1880s.
John Jakes' North and South Trilogy http://www.amazon.com/North-South-Trilogy/dp/0451200810/sr=1-2/qid=1169869198/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/102-5985084-6528966?ie=UTF8&s=books Follows a northern and a southern family that strive to maintain their lives and their friendships, started by two young men as the attend West Point in the 1830s (?) and travels with both sides of the families through the turbulent years before, during and following the American Civil War.
These are all my favorites and doesn't include my manga collection. I always have been and always will be a book worm. :) I love to listen to the audio books of these when I'm at work too.

The In Death series by J. D. Robb, The Troubleshooters series by Suzanne Brockmann and the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. The first two series are suspense mixed with comedy and the last is just hilarious.
Also, any book by Nora Roberts is great.

National Geographic! Do magazines count? They are like books...if it is novels you are talking about...um...A Void by Georges Perec. It is a book that doesn't have the letter "E" in its story.
