I'm in total agreement with you. And it's gotten really bad lately, partly because I buy them to sell, and I often pick up a few (or more) for myself. And then of course I have to read what I buy, else how will I know what's good and not good? LOVE THEM!
Read the last Lois Lowry book that is a companion to The Giver, in one night. I'm doing research, too, you see, so have to read this type of book (and enjoy it at the same time.)
