I'm thinking about auditioning for season 7, I know ill make it to hollywood week, but im worried because most american idol stars end up has-beens. Is there any other way to get a record deal if you dont know anyone in the music industry ?

You could go to lots of bars and places with stages or live shows and ask for the part. Many musicians are discovered that way.

Make a myspace music profile.

Get a recorder or mixer.
If you attend a church you might be able to use some of the equipment there.

Get a recording of a song or two of your own.

Find some cover songs.
Use a combination of your songs and the cover songs to play at open mics.

(this is a GREAT way to form an audience, get your name and music out there, and meet people who can either help form a band with you or even help you in the industry.)

Post your songs on the myspace profile. Add people and await for others to add you.

Within a year you could have a pretty hot ride towards your goal.

But remember, if you truly want to be a "famous" musician. You got to have the talent, time to practice, and will/desire to get there.

Remember that fame just means someone else has you do what they want. A record company will make you into their product. So if you do end up working out a contract, be sure to have a lawyer present with your best interest in mind.

But of course, follow the above steps and you will at least be out there.

Good luck and God speed!

It's extremely hard. I would stick with American Idol. I think it would be better to get into the top 5, but not win, that way you can sign with any record label you want and explore your options.

Well aren't you cocky. Haven't you seen the show? Tens of thousands of people in each city also "know" that they will make it to Hollywood week.

My guess is that you are overthinking this.
