(1) If B is the midpoint of segment AC,
then AB = BC (same length)
so 4x = 2x + 10.

Subtract 2x from both sides
4x - 2x = 2x - 2x + 10
or
2x = 10

Divide by 2
x = 5
Now plug x = 5 back into the equations to find
AB = 20 and
BC = 20

This makes sense if B is the midpoint
which bisects the segment into two equal parts
that have the same length.

(2) If not, if you are given a fixed value for x to use,
then plug that in place of x in the equations
So if you are given x = 10 then
AB = 4 * (10) = 40
BC = 2 * (10) + 10 = 30
