I think braille signs make sense. Why don't they put an obese person sign next to the stairwells? You know, a big picture with an obese person with a red circle and line going through it. Just to warn them of the unnecessary exercise ahead.

I don't understand why a blind person could not go down stairs. If they can walk off a curb and cross a busy street then why could they not walk down stairs? Just because they cannot see does not mean they cannot hang on to a rail to walk down stairs. I am sure that they can make up their own minds whether or not they want to walk down the stairs or take the elevator.

I can understand braille signs on stairs; I'm sure many blind people can navigate a stairwell just fine. It's the braille keys on drive-up ATM's that has always puzzled me!

Stairs would actually be much more reliable to navigate than you would think. Grab the rail and feel for the next step. Nothing will jump out in front of your or be there for you to run into.

Because there are actually some stupid people who think blind people would walk on the stairs. What if they fell?

I guess the braille sign is to warn them that the stairs are there.
