You could always try the http://www.BBB.org where there are a few different search criterias available. You can try looking by type of business within a certain mile radius of a zip code. Provided that you know that much.

It may depend on what state the company is incorporated in. When companies incorporate, many have to register their fictitious name with whatever state agency regulates corporations (for example, in Pennsylvania it is the Pennsylvania Department of State). They may have a searchable database where you can search by name to find a corporation (i.e. in PA you can search UCC filings online http://www.corporations.state.pa.us/ucc/soskb/SearchStandardRA9.asp?corpsNav=|)

I'd start by looking for information on the website of the department of state for the individual state it is located in. (NOT the U.S. state department - that's completely different.)

I hope this is helpful. Good luck!
